The heart of native wisdom
Right in the middle of the Peruvian jungle in the eastern part of the country stands the warm and vibrant capital of the Ucayali province, Pucallpa.
This city of heavy rains and all-year-round sunshine is characterized by the cultural richness of its people. Visitors will have a chance to learn the local customs and craftsmanship at the native settlement of San Francisco, the largest of the Shipibo-Conibo ethnic communities in the country.
Another must-see in Pucallpa is Yarinacocha Lake, a breathtaking site where tourists can swim, sail, fish and see fresh water dolphins. If you visit Pucallpa in June, make sure not to miss the traditional Juane de Gallina, a local delicacy served during the Feast of San Juan.
